What’s new?

It’s been a while since I’ve updated. Here is what has been going on.

In February, the Tyler Mire Big Band went into the studio to record 9 of my own original compositions and arrangements. The band played incredibly well and the vibe was great. We were able to work with well-renowned Bob Parr as our engineer. I can’t wait to show you guys these tracks, the ensemble playing and improvisations are first rate. Currently mixing is being wrapped up. The art work is being designed by saxophonist and artist-extradinaire Dustin Mollick. The release is slated to be in early July.

I have spent the last year gigging steadily in an incredible funk band called the Top Band. This high energy band has everything you could want in a group: no tracks, killer vocals, great rhythm section pocket, versatility, live horns and a killer stage show. In addition, I have enjoyed my time as a private trumpet instructor. My favorite aspect of this has been teaching 6th graders and seeing their progression throughout the year. I still keep busy with several arranging and composition projects, while continually composing creative original music for my own group. I have also been afforded some great opportunities to play with name artists, such as The Temptations, Frankie Vally and subbing in the national tour of “Wicked”.Add a variety of other freelance gigs and you get a very fulfilling year of work and growth as a musician.

The most exciting coming event is my upcoming marriage to the beautiful and talented Kelsey Pickford. She is an incredible woodwind artist, who is a stellar bassoonist in addition to the other horns she is usually seen on.

Life is good and I’m blessed to make a living doing what I love.
